Electricity

Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, Dominion Energy provides electric service to the City of Staunton.

One of the nation’s largest producers and transporters of energy, Dominion has a portfolio of approximately 26,400 megawatts of electric generation, 66,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering, storage and distribution pipeline and 64,200 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines. They operate one of the largest natural gas storage systems in the U.S. with 1 trillion cubic feet of capacity and serve more than 6 million utility and retail energy customers.

Natural Gas

Headquartered in Chesterfield County, Virginia, Columbia Gas is one of NiSource’s seven regulated utility companies. NiSource is one of the largest fully-regulated utility companies in the United States, serving approximately 3.7 million natural gas customers and 500,000 electric customers through its local Columbia Gas and NIPSCO brands. They serve more than 262,000 residential, industrial and government customers in 91 communities, making them the third-largest natural gas utility in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Water & Sewer Services

Water Treatment
The City of Staunton owns, operates, and maintains an 8.0 million gallon per day (MGD) conventional water treatment plant. The primary water sources include a natural underground spring and reservoirs.

The City’s drinking water consistently meets all water quality standards and regulations. In the most recent Water Quality Report, Staunton’s Water Treatment Plant achieved the Silver award through the VDH Office of Drinking Water Virginia Optimization Program. This program recognizes those who provide quality water that exceeds minimum regulatory standards and operates water systems in an exemplary manner.

Wastewater Treatment
The Middle River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is jointly owned by the City of Staunton and Augusta County Service Authority, serves the wastewater treatment needs of the City. The plant, which has a 6.0 million gallon per day treatment capacity (MGD), is operated by the Augusta County Service Authority through an inter-jurisdictional agreement with the City.
