Update: Water Distribution Site Open During Boil Water Advisory

August 15, 2025

UPDATE

Aug. 17, 2025 – Water distribution has been consolidated to better manage resources. Any City of Staunton water customers in need of bottled water should go to the Gypsy Hill Park Gymnasium at 116th Regimental Rd. The site will be open from while supplies are available Sunday. Our inventory is changing to 12-pack cans of water. Each vehicle will be limited to one 12-pack.

All City of Staunton water customers remain under a Boil Water Advisory issued Friday morning due to an overnight water main break. The boil water precautions are for water consumption and will be in place for approximately the next 48 hours. Once water is restored, even if the pressure and water look typical, you need to boil until told otherwise.

During the Boil Water Advisory, the City of Staunton has set up water distribution sites with bottled and gallon water. These will be open throughout the day. There will be a limit of one case of water or two gallon jugs per vehicle.

Water Distribution Sites:

  • Staunton High School – 1301 N. Coalter St.
  • Bessie Weller Elementary School – 600 Greenville Ave.
  • Gypsy Hill Park Gymnasium – 116th Regimental Rd.

Current planned hours for all three sites:

  • Friday: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you are using tap water, residential and business customers should boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and let it cool before use. Continue to follow these precautions until the city notifies residents that the boil water advisory has been lifted.

Water Main Break Status

Utility crews repaired the broken 16-inch water main behind Stocker Street Friday by mid-morning. To complete the repair, water service had to be shut off. This caused low water pressure throughout much of the city and required service interruptions in higher-elevation areas. The utility department is now slowly restoring water flow to replenish the system. Customers may see water service return, but the boil water advisory remains in effect. After water is fully restored, water testing and sampling will begin to ensure the water is safe.
