Staunton Seeks Input in Community Survey

October 1, 2025

The City of Staunton has launched its second National Community Survey to gather resident input on government services and measure the quality of life in the community. The city plans to use the results in upcoming planning and budgeting.

“We are excited to receive another round of input from the community to guide our city’s priorities. This recurring survey helps us build on our baseline understanding of our services and allows us to measure our impact going forward,” said Assistant City Manager Amanda Kaufman.

How to Participate

Approximately 3,000 randomly selected households will receive mailed survey invitations over the next couple of weeks. Recipients will first receive a postcard with a link to complete the survey online. A paper version will be mailed a week later for those who prefer that option.

A community-wide online version will be available in late October, and all Staunton residents are encouraged to participate. Both surveys will remain open until Nov. 11.

What the Survey Covers

The National Community Survey captures opinions on the economy, mobility, community design, utilities, safety, natural environment, inclusivity, engagement, and other elements of Staunton’s overall livability. Results will show the city’s strengths, areas for improvement, and what matters most to residents. The city will also see how its performance compares to other communities nationwide.

Survey results are expected to be available in early 2026. The city plans to do the National Community Survey every other year.

All responses are completely confidential and anonymous. The survey is being conducted through a partnership with Polco and the National Research Center, using a platform utilized by hundreds of communities in nearly every U.S. state.
