New J&DR District Court Ribbon Cutting

November 17, 2025

The City of Staunton invites the community to celebrate the new Staunton Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 18, from 4–6 p.m. The event will be held at the new facility, located at 2020 West Beverley Street.

A brief program with remarks from city leadership and members of the Judiciary will begin at 4 p.m., followed by an opportunity for attendees to step inside portions of the new building. While access will be limited due to courthouse security requirements, this event will offer the public’s first look inside the facility since construction began. Light refreshments will be available.

The new J&DR Court facility includes two courtrooms, secure program areas for the City Sheriff’s Office, Clerk’s Office, and Court Service Unit, as well as satellite office space for the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Public Defender, and mediator/victim advocate services. The building was designed by Moseley Architects and constructed by Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc.

“Seeing this new building take shape over the past year and a half on the site of the former Chestnut Hills Shopping Center has been truly energizing,” said Mayor Michele Edwards. “This civic and community anchor will play an important role in supporting continued growth and development in the West End.”

“I am incredibly proud of the team of city staff who have worked on this new facility,” said City Manager Leslie Beauregard. “Despite a tight timeline, city staff and our partners have risen to the challenge of delivering one of the city’s largest and most important civic facilities in decades.”

The ribbon cutting is open to the public, and members of the media are encouraged to attend.

City staff are also continuing planning efforts for the remainder of the site. Work is underway with a consultant to develop a conceptual design for future use of the surrounding property, supporting the long-term vision for revitalizing the area.

More information about the project is available on the City’s website at www.staunton.va.us/courthouse.
