The City of Staunton is entering the final phase of its Comprehensive Plan update and is inviting residents to participate in an online survey open now through December 22. The survey allows community members to review proposed actions and recommendations and help city leaders prioritize the next steps for Staunton’s long-term growth and investment.
A Comprehensive Plan is the community’s roadmap for the future. It outlines how Staunton will guide decisions related to land use, economic development, housing, parks, infrastructure, and more. The plan is shaped by public input and provides a coordinated framework for City Council, boards and commissions, and staff as they make policy, budget, and development decisions.
This update incorporates community feedback through open houses, stakeholder listening sessions, and online engagement. This final survey builds on that work by asking residents to respond directly to the proposed strategies designed to fulfill the community’s goals.
The survey is dynamic, allowing participants to choose which goal areas they want to review.
“We know residents are passionate about different aspects of our city, and we designed this survey to be flexible,” said Long Range Planner Meggie Taylor. “You can choose to provide feedback only on the plan chapters that matter most to you, whether that’s housing, transportation, or all of them.”
“This survey is about moving from ideas to action,” Taylor added. “The community has already helped us establish the ‘what.’ Now, we need help prioritizing the ‘how,’ the specific tactics to make those goals a reality.”
Next Steps
A complete draft of the updated Comprehensive Plan will be published in the beginning of next year with another opportunity for public comment before the plan moves forward to the Planning Commission and City Council.
