Carded Graphics was based in Staunton for more than 20 years before attracting the interest of Atlanta-based Graphic Packaging International, Inc., which purchased the assets of the company in 2015. Carded Graphics enjoyed a strong regional position in the food, craft beer, and other consumer product markets. The company was originally founded as Pell Paper Box Co Inc. in 1926 and changed its name to Carded Graphics LLC in 2006.

Key dates:

  • In 2015, Graphic Packaging International, Inc. purchased Staunton-based Carded Graphics.

  • In 2016, Graphic Packaging International, Inc. announced plans to invest $20 million in the Staunton plant and create 43 new jobs.

Today, the company’s 120,000-square-foot Staunton facility specializes in folding cartons, sustainable packaging, and paperboard packaging. It converts folding cartons, paper sheets and rolls into packaging products, and does commercial printing for the packaging industry. The company also provides graphic design services, and handles warehousing and distribution of packaging products.

“We’ve watched this company evolve and expand since 1996, from a 60,000-square-foot facility offering 34 jobs, to much larger, state of the art facility with over 170 employees,” says Staunton Mayor Carolyn Dull.

Among several high-tech presses on site, the company utilizes a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 press, which enables the company to print on just about any packaging substrate possible. The company also operates a full prepress system from Heidelberg, including a Suprasetter 105 platesetter, Prinect Prepress Manager workflow system, and more.

Graphic Packaging International, Inc. is located in a build-to-suit facility in the Green Hills Industry and Technology Center, a prime location as it is located next to the Interstate 64 and 81 interchanges.
